On 4 September 2024, at 6.30 pm, we will present the book Brac. Books Recipes Artist Cooking, published by Corraini edizioni, which collects 80 recipes created and served within BRAC and entrusted to the free interpretation of artists.
“A successful dish is like a work of art, a perfect blend of rules and imagination”. For fifteen years, the BRAC Bookshop in Florence has been combining good vegetarian and vegan cuisine and publishing dedicated to the languages of contemporary art. A formula that is an expression of the passions of the two owners, Sacha and Melisa: an imaginative chef specialising in vegetarian and vegan cuisine who is in love with comics and illustration, and a bibliophile with an interest in contemporary art in all its forms of expression (art, theatre, dance, cinema, photography). Since its opening in 2009 to date, the Brac has organised and hosted around 1,800 meetings and book presentations, promoted and realised several festivals, events and exhibitions. This volume collects 80 recipes, born and served within the BRAC, entrusted to the free interpretation of 78 contemporary artists. “Among them,” as Pietro Gaglianò writes, “are all of Scripta’s guests, together with beloved friends, assiduous visitors to the bookshop and its programmes, people who have passed through and who remain ever present, together with others who have never been to BRAC but who, through virtuous or virtual ties, through friendship or affinity, form a fundamental part of its universe of art, books and words.”
The presentation will be attended by Melisa Di Nardo and Sasha Sandri Olmo (founders of the BRAC project), Pietro Gaglianò (editor of the book), Simona Da Pozzo and Bianco-Valente (artists who contributed to the book).
The event is part of the cultural program curated by Nicola Ciancio for SuperOtium (a project conceived by Nicola Ciancio and Vincenzo Falcione) and aligns with this season’s theme, “Look Closer,” inviting audiences to examine things closely to discover their details, depths, and imperfections.

BRAC is a bookshop dedicated to contemporary arts, a space of thought devoted to the consumption of art and food. Languages and fragrances coexist within the Brac born from the need to express the most natural function of everyday life: to feed on information and food, on ideas and experiences in order to enhance the knowledge and sensitivity of art, of an ever-expanding art capable of tracing profound signs. The Brac was founded in May 2009 and established itself as a reference point for all lovers of cuisine and contemporary art. The ‘bookshop with kitchen’ formula, a novelty on the city scene, blends the history of its passions, those of the owners Sacha and Melisa: an imaginative chef specialising in vegetarian and vegan cuisine who is in love with comics and illustration, and a bibliophile with an interest in contemporary art in all its forms of expression (art, theatre, dance, cinema, photography).
SuperOtium is a house in the heart of Naples, founded by Nicola Ciancio and Vincenzo Falcione, designed to welcome tourists, artists, travelers, and creatives. A meeting place where artist residencies, events, exhibitions, and accommodation coexist to inspire artists and creatives and challenge the assumptions of travelers, proposing new perspectives through which to view the city. The SuperOtium residency program has hosted, among others, Kensuke Koike, Pietro Gaglianò, Massimo Uberti, Hypereden, Bianca Felicori (Forgotten Architecture), Paz Ortùzar (in collaboration with the Cervantes Institute of Naples), Giovanna Silva (in collaboration with Lorenzo Xiques), Nuvola Ravera (in collaboration with Made in Cloister), Blase (in collaboration with ShowDesk), Yasser Almaamoun (in collaboration with the Goethe Institut), Khaled El Mays (in collaboration with Edit Napoli).
