A garden, in the anthropized countryside of Puglia, reimagined as a living organism: a place of interspecies relations, a laboratory of listening and transformation.
With the project Lamia Santolina, artist and filmmaker Cosimo Terlizzi explores our relationship with nature and the wild, weaving together artistic, botanical, and narrative practices.
At SuperOtium, he presents his artist’s book from the garden – reconciling with the wild (dal giardino – riconciliarsi con il selvatico) published by ziczic edizioni and the video cycle Seasons (2023), works that interlace writing, images, and sounds in an attempt to translate a natural language made of rhythms, silences, and metamorphoses.
The artist will be in conversation with Marco Petroni (design critic and lecturer) and Giovanni Masucci (Batù Gardens).
The book tells of life in the countryside by following and reinterpreting natural processes, alternating Terlizzi’s texts with photographs of Lamia Santolina’s evolving garden.
The video cycle Seasons looks closely at the garden as a plural creature, capturing its invisible movements and the transformations of light, time, and matter.
Cosimo Terlizzi (Bologna, 1973 – lives and works in Puglia) is an artist and filmmaker. Active since the 1990s, he has exhibited in institutions such as the Centre Pompidou, MAMbo, Fondazione Merz, and MACRO, and directed films and documentaries presented at major international festivals. In 2020 he founded Lamia Santolina, a research garden that now holds over 400 varieties of Mediterranean plants.
SuperOtium is an art hotel and artist residency located in the heart of Naples’ historic center. Since 2017, it has promoted a model of hospitality integrated with creative research, collective experiences, and dialogue with the local and international artistic community.
